So why therapy?
We all experience struggles in our lives at some point, even those who seem to lead a perfect life on social media...
We might be struggling at work, at home or in society. We might struggle to understand our family, our friends or our partner(s). We might struggle understanding ourselves, how we’re feeling and why we do what we do.
Feeling different or lonely? Feeling negative or full of self-doubt? Feeling unable to cope with a life-changing event that’s happened or is on the horizon? Feeling lost or lacking direction? Feeling numb or nothing at all? These are all common things that bring people to seek help through therapy.
So why with you?
There has been a lot written and researched about the effectiveness of the various types of therapy but what has come over loud and clear in the research is that the important thing is the relationship between the client (you) and the Therapist (me). This is why Therapists should always encourage you to shop around and find a Therapist you get on with.
My approach is primarily humanistic and integrative, meaning my focus is on you as a whole person and your emotional, mental and physical needs. I may bring in tools or techniques from other “modalities” (other types of therapy) that are consistent with this.
I offer this safe space for you to explore your feelings related to:
relating to gender, sexuality and relationship diversity (GRSD), such identity, coming out, internalised homophobia, navigating a heteronormative society, etc
neurodiversity issues, including diagnosis later in life
bereavement, grief and loss
cultural identity
depression and low mood
anxiety
difficulty relating to others
feeling different or lost in life
family conflict
isolation and loneliness
lack of direction
lack of feelings or emotional numbness
Polyamory and non-monogamy
relationship challenges and breakdown
shame and guilt
social anxiety
stress
As a neurodiverse gay man living in a non-traditional relationship dynamic, I’m familiar with feeling not the same as others and the struggles that come with that. Years of fitting in have given me a broad range of skills to get on with pretty much anyone and I offer that in a non-judgemental, safe and supportive environment where I invite you to truly be yourself.

Ultimately, the only way you’re going to know if we’ll work well together is to get in contact.
Head over to the Booking and Prices page and select your time for a Chemistry Call (or send an email to me at steve@unicorntherapy.co.uk), so we can have conversation about what is it you’re looking for and how I may be able to help.
While I aim to get back to you as soon as I can, it may take a day or two, particularly if it’s over a weekend.
